Four Year Educational Plan for Middle School

Below is a chart to help students plan the courses they will take during the fifth, sixth, seventh, and eighth grades. Students must enroll in 7 courses every year.

* Fine Art Options:

  • Students will take Music in grades 5, 6, and 7.
  • Students will take Visual Arts in grades 5, 6, and 8.

* World Language Options:

  • Students must choose between Chinese and Spanish.
  • Students with Korean nationality must take a Korean Class. In addition to Korean class, they must take one world language class, either Chinese or Spanish.
  • Korean as a Second Language (KSL) is offered to students without Korean nationality, or those with Korean nationality who are not yet proficient in Korean.
  • English Language Learners (ELL) will take an ELL class in place of Chinese or Spanish until they demonstrate grade level achievement on our English language proficiency exam.

* Project Based Learning & Junior Project:

  • This class is offered to 7th and 8th grade students and is designed to foster the foundational inquiry skills necessary for success in the 21st century. The course culminates in an interdisciplinary Junior Project, which students develop over the course of their 8th grade year with the support of core subject teachers and the Project Based Learning Coordinator.
